Why is waxing popular?

Waxing is reliable, pocket friendly, safe, and long-lasting. Unlike shaving, waxing can prevent new hair from growing for as long as eight weeks. Besides, waxing will make you have a glowing, smooth, fresh, and clean skin.

Many people would like to know the pros and cons of waxing. In this article, we have decided to provide you with all the necessary information about waxing. See another great article on hair wax at www.groenerekenkamer.com.

The process of hair waxing

The process of waxing entails the removal of hair using wax and a piece of cloth. Wax is placed on the part of the fabric and stuck on the body hair. The material is then removed off the skin, thus eliminating the unwanted hair from the follicle. The skin is left hairless and smooth without some of the dead skin cells.

Types of waxing

Hot waxing is the most popular method of waxing used in spas and salons. Here, you apply the wax when it is still warm to make it spread evenly on the skin. The wax then hardens and holds on each strand of hair, which is then pulled out quickly with the cloth. However, using this method requires extra care because hot wax can cause burns, so we advise you to consult a professional.

Cold waxing, on the other hand, does not require heating. It is prepared on a pre-coated strip which you can directly place and rub on the skin. This strip will stick on the surface, and all you need to do is to pull it out quickly. This method appears to be less messy because it comes with pre-coated strips for your convenience. However, you have to apply the cold wax multiple times to achieve the desired results. This method is also known as Persian wax.

Effects of hair waxing on the skin

Apart from the removal of hair, waxing enhances the process of exfoliation. Exfoliation is the process by which dead skin cells are removed from the skin surface. Recently waxed skin may look red and have an irritation, which is very sensitive to touch. The redness and irritation may disappear after a while, but you might also notice rashes or bumps after facial waxing, which is also temporary.

Health precautions to consider waxing hair removal

Doctors advise that you should avoid waxing if you have a health condition like diabetes, varicose veins, lupus, AIDS, or any other disease that compromises the skin. If you are taking or recently stopped taking Accutane, Retin- A, or Differin, you are also not encouraged to have facial waxing. The acne medications mentioned above weaken the skin and may result in severe infections as the skin tears off once the wax is removed. Waxing is also not encouraged for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Consult a physician first if you’re not sure if any of these health conditions.

Parts of the body exempted from hair waxing

Waxing should also not be done on parts of the body that have rashes, pimples, cut, inflamed, or warts. Also, areas that have a skin graft, irritated, or sunburnt should not be waxed. Eyelashes, nipples, male genitals, and the areas around the ears and nose should not be considered for waxing.

How far apart should you schedule your next waxing session?

On average, the duration for regrowth is about four weeks to grow back to ¼ inch long. The regrown hair usually becomes more elegant and less until it stops regrowing eventually.

Precautionary measures to minimize the amount of pain or discomfort

Pain or discomfort during waxing is inevitable. However, you can reduce the discomfort by pressing the skin right after waxing. You should also wear loose-fitting clothes to prevent irritation on sensitive skin. You can also opt to use special gels, cold and warm compress to calm the affected area to prevent and remove ingrown hairs.
