When it comes to the quick transmission rate of Coronavirus, India ranks among the top Asian countries. For a few weeks now, while most countries were seeing a dip in the infection rate, India has been witnessing quite a steady rise.

As of May 2020, the transmission rate in India is 1.29 according to a study by the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai.  This indicates that an average of 1.29 people are contracting Coronavirus from one infected person.

It is high time that you start taking measures to protect yourself from exposure and also buy a Coronavirus health insurance plan—such a policy will cover treatment costs if you unfortunately contract the virus.

As per Worldometer, India has seen more than 1.5 lakh positive cases and has reported over 4,000 deaths due to COVID-19. The situation can worsen if you do not take every possible step to protect yourself and your loved ones.

To successfully achieve this, you must first understand how Coronavirus spreads.

  1. Person to person

This virus can spread from one person to another through multiple ways, like:

  • Droplets: The droplets of cough and saliva of an infected person can carry Coronavirus into the air. So, if you are within a distance of six feet from them, you may breathe in these dangerous droplets.

  • Aerosolized transmission: Coronavirus can survive for three hours in the air. You can get infected if you breathe in air that contains the virus.

  • Surface transmission: The virus can survive on different surfaces, like metal and glass. If they have infected droplets on them and you unknowingly come into contact with them, you are at risk. The virus can enter your lungs via your eyes, mouth, and nose after you touch these areas with infected hands.

  1. Community spread

You may not always be aware whether someone is COVID-19 positive or not. Some patients do not even show clear symptoms. You may come into contact with an infected person while outdoors and expose yourself to the virus. This is called community spread. Since this increases your chances of infection, it is a good decision to buy health insurance for coronavirus to cover you financially.

  1. Pets

Even though there is no clear evidence that pets can spread the virus, some pets have tested positive for COVID-19. Investing in a COVID-19 health insurance policy is a good safety measure. You should also wear a mask and gloves when tending to your pets.

Importance of the right health insurance plan

Buying a health insurance policy is even more important now while we live under the constant threat of Coronavirus. Hospitalization and medical expenses for the COVID-19 treatment can be costly, depending on the severity of your case and how much care you need. So, you must ensure that your health insurance policy covers this disease.

Before buying the policy, you should compare health insurance plans from to find the one that benefits you the most.
