Before we talk about a good skin guide for sensitive skin, you need to be sure whether or not you have sensitive skin.

Does your skin get easily irritated? Are you constantly dealing with inflammation, dryness, and itchiness issues?

If you have answered affirmatively to the above two questions, there are high chances of you  having a sensitive skin type. While there is nothing wrong with having this specific skin type, you do, however, need to be careful with the type of skincare products you end up using.

Firstly, having great skin is not only dependent on good DNA; your daily habits and lifestyle choices are also equally important. At the end of the day, you are responsible for your skin as skin care is personal. Nevertheless, there are a few ways in which you can care for your skin keeping the sensitivity at bay.

Clean your skin

Of course, the most important part of any skin care routine is cleansing your skin to remove any environmental pollutants, dirt, grime, and other factors that may lead to clogged pores, dullness, and acne.

Start with buying the correct facial cleanser for your skin and remember to use it twice every day. For sensitive skin, opting for an oil-based cleanser would be better as the oil present in the formula helps to absorb any excess oil. Go for products that contain argan has not only is this ingredient non-comedogenic, but it is also moisturizing and lightweight.

Follow up with toning

There are many people who are under the impression that using a toner is simply an optional step. Well, this isn’t the case at all.

But since you have sensitive skin, you need to be very careful with the kind of toner you put your skin as using the wrong formula may have negative results. You may choose to opt for rose water and green tea as they can help to reduce any inflammation and redness with their anti-inflammatory properties, while also calming any irritation.

Get that moisturization locked in with the serum

Serums are a relatively new entry into the market. With their active ingredients, they can be really good for your skin as they help to eliminate wrinkles as well as dark spots. Think of these products as an excellent way to give your skin a generous dose of antioxidants.

There are a limitless number of ingredients present in serums currently. Two of the most crucial ingredients they contain are niacinamide and colloidal sulfur. These two ingredients help to calm irritation and redness by minimizing any inflammation. Also, due to its antimicrobial properties, acne can be curbed as well.

Having said this, you need to absolutely avoid using serums that contain retinol or hyaluronic acid as they might cause adverse reactions to your sensitive skin. Remember, a serum is different from a moisturizer and hence, should not be mixed under any circumstances. Yes, even when you are getting late for your meeting or party.

Get your moisture levels raging

Speaking of moisturizers, a moisturizer is undoubtedly one of the most important parts of a skin care regime. These products help to soften your skin while simultaneously hydrating it from within. whether you have sensitive skin or any other skin type, every dermatologist will tell you to include a moisturizer in your daily routine.

Since we are exclusively discussing sensitive skin, you should opt for a balmy moisturizer. This formula feels like a cream but has a heavier texture. This way, you will be able to eliminate any excessive dryness.

It would be interesting to note that your day cream is different from a night cream. Hence, you should own separate products that can be applied during different parts of the day. Day creams are specially created to protect your skin from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun as well as environmental aggressors. The formula contains abundant antioxidants that can minimize free radical damage while providing you the perfect shield.

On the other hand, night creams are created with the purpose to repair and rejuvenate your skin. They help to counteract blemishes while also promoting cell turnover. With anti-aging benefits, the emollients have a thick, rich texture which makes it more suitable to be applied during the night.

Additional tips to help you care for sensitive skin

Now that we have discussed a few basics in caring for sensitive skin, let’s talk about a few other tips that would be useful to help you achieve the skin of your dreams.

Go easy with your facial cleanser

While exfoliation is good, over-exfoliation isn’t, and this becomes even more crucial when you have sensitive skin. You should exfoliate your face only once or twice a week to remove any collected dead skin cells and reveal fresh skin.

Skip all acidic products

Any product that contains acids such as glycolic acid, lipoic acid, salicylic acid are not your friends. These will only irritate your skin leading to breakouts. Hence, if you find any skincare products that have these active ingredients, drop them like it’s hot.

Use cosmetics that suit sensitive skin

In addition to skin care products, you need to use makeup products that are specially formulated for sensitive skin. For example, using a face powder would be better as they contain lesser amounts of resonators in them which, in turn, will lead to minimum irritation. If you do want to use makeup foundation, always opt for silicone-based formulas as it will not lead to inflammation. Waterproof cosmetics are not suitable for sensitive skin as they contain ingredients that can be harsh altering the natural pH levels of your skin.

If you are finding it difficult to locate the right cosmetic for your sensitive skin, you can always enlist the help of a sales executive or a friend. After all, prevention is always better than cure.
