Lafon created Modiodal in France and had to sell its rights to Cephalon, an American Company that marketed Modafinil as Provigil. Both have the same chemical structure but the difference is that the company selling Provigil owns the patent, since 2012. As they are selling it for more than a decade they have built a recognizable brand.

What is Provigil?

Provigil is a medication used for treating excessive sleepiness due to obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and shift work. Besides, you can buy it over the counter from Top Apotheke, an online pharmacy for enhancing alertness or treating drowsiness. Online purchase is hassle-free, safe, and anonymous. In the United States, more than 900,000 people use generic versions like Modalert or Provigil to combat sleepiness. It is used as a performance enhancer.

For example –

  • Astronauts and space agencies used it on their space missions.
  • Stock market speculators and traders use it to optimize their trades and transactions.
  • Startup executives and CEOs use it to work productivity for extended periods and boost profits.
  • Militaries from France and the United Kingdom have used it during high-risk missions.

It is also an off-label cognitive enhancer. Multiple studies and research are reporting its effect on lots of cognitive functions. There are studies associated with other nootropics, but Provigil is also a nootropic that works!

Nootropics are cognitive or neurometabolic stimulants prepared in the laboratory. They are focused on activating cognitive functions, increasing learning ability, and enhancing memory. Nootropics increase the resistance of the brain to different adverse effects.

Researchers have agreed that the formula enhances short-term memory that includes –

  • Visual pattern recognition
  • Strategic planning
  • Spatial planning
  • Reaction time
  • Rapid visual processing
  • Episodic & working memory
  • Work motivation
  • Decision-making
  • Focus & alertness

How do Provigil works?

There is still a lot of research needed to understand how Provigil helps to decrease sleepiness and increase wakefulness. It works in the brain and enhances the dopamine level. It even affects glutamate in specific regions of the brain. This stimulates brain activity making users feel less fatigued.

Provigil dosage information

Provigil 200mg is recommended for obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and shift work disorder. A single dose before the work shift is recommended for SWD situations. A single dose of 400mg/day has been well-tolerated in clinical trials.

There is an overdose study, where 1200 mg/day was ingested for 7 to 21 days. Even an accidental overdose of 4500 mg/day did not trigger life-threatening conditions.

However, in this overdose drug trial, there were side effects like –

  • Restlessness
  • Agitation
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Aggressiveness
  • Irritability
  • Tremors
  • Nervousness
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Palpitations
  • Confusion
  • Hallucinations

Provigil promotes sleeplessness and performance but when you combine it with alcohol then it badly impacts cognitive function and productivity. The function of both Provigil and alcohol is opposite, so it is not a good idea to take them together. Besides, both substances promote loss of water, so they can cause dehydration.

Provigil must also not be taken while pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you have medical conditions then ask your doctor before using.
